Val di Fassa

Canazei

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Val di Fassa , a renowned winter ski resort and a wonderful starting point for summer excursions. Canazei sits at the foot of the most beautiful Dolomites: the Sassolungo, the Marmolada and the Sella mountain range.

Canazei is located at an altitude of 1,465 metres and is therefore one of the highest Italian villages. It forms part of the Ladin-speaking minority called “Ladinia dolomitica”: an area where Ladin is spoken. The inhabitants are very much in touch with their history and traditions, having handed down their knowledge and costumes from generation to generation, and they make them known to the many tourists by organising frequent performances and festivals.

But you cannot mention Canazei without thinking about the unspoilt nature, clean air and sport activities that make the area the ideal place to spend your holidays, both in summer and winter.

Val di Fassa

Lovely both in summer as well as in winter, the Val di Fassa is the perfect place to spend a fantastic holiday

It is located in the North-East of the Trentino Region and is one of the main Dolomite valleys, on the slopes of the beautiful Marmolada and crossed by the river Avisio. It consists of 7 municipalities: Moena, Soraga, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa, Mazzin, Campitello di Fassa and Canazei and is surrounded by the most important massifs of the Dolomites: The Sella, the Sassolungo and the Catinaccio mountains.

Folk tradition is very strong here: there are famous fairytales, legends and stories which tell of the formation of the majestic Dolomite peaks; you can visit the Ladin Museum to find out about the traditions, language and culture of the Ladin population.

You cannot mention Val di Fassa without talking about walks and excursions: in summer, you can go on mountain excursions accompanied by local Alpine guides and enjoy the beautiful views or take a stroll with all the family to discover Alpine huts or small 'refuges' where you can taste traditional Ladin dishes or even do a bit of sport, riding your own bike along the cycle path. For children there are plenty of adventure parks and playgrounds, guided tours and educational farms...

In winter the Val di Fassa is dressed in white and the temptation to ski is irresistible: perfectly-groomed slopes suitable for all levels of skiers and many playgrounds in the snow for the kids, ski schools with qualified instructors, snow parks and tobogganing slopes are just some of the winter attractions! Festivals and events are great to fit around your days dedicated to sport.

The Dolomites

The Dolomites are a set of mountain ranges in the Eastern Alps, also known as the Pale Mountains as they are almost white in colour, that run between the provinces of Belluno, Trento and Bolzano. In 2009 they were listed as a World Heritage Site.

Once submerged in sea similar to the Tropics, the Dolomites are unusual in that they have shells, corals and algae embedded in them from this ancient environment that can be found today in the form of fossils. There are many imaginative legends telling of the orogeny of the mountains and of the beautiful colour that these rocks take on at sunset as they are tinged with pale pink, a phenomenon that the Ladins call the “enrosadira (the Alpenglow).

We invite you to discover our beloved mountains by spending a few days holiday in Canazei in the Maria apartments. We look forward to seeing you!
